Current Activities:
New Family Network went well. Most new families attended, as well as mentor families. Thanks to Anne Marie Gallulo for a job well done.
Wrap sale is underway – please be sure to support the efforts of your children. Only 1 week left!
Harvest Festival: Philip & Lisa Ganoe
New hours for the HF this year. 10 new families attended our general meeting and shared some great new ideas. Most are interested in volunteering to help make the HF successful – welcome!
Silent Auction: Pam Martis
Most items are set to close by Saturday. Sunday we will have a Wine and Cheese event with about 100 items left to close on Sunday evening. Donations are slow right now but we hope it will pick up in October. Auction items will be listed online as well.
Big Red Raffle: Delia Cunningham
A little slow until now, just starting to pick up. There are still some school families who have yet to purchase their ticket. We are approaching the different Ministries at the Church to ask them to purchase a ticket as well.
Discussion:
A parent brought up that she was approached by others who said since they couldn’t pay the full $500 Foundation suggested support, they figured they shouldn’t pay anything. She corrected them, and SMM reminded us again at the meeting, that school families are requested to support the Foundation – it is SUGGESTED to donate $500 per family, but ANY support is accepted and appreciated.
Principal’s Points: Sister Mary Margaret
Some families have approached SMM recently, asking about the General Fees and the Building (Capital Improvement)Fee and what they cover. To help explain, SMM will include an explanation in next week’s (9/21) Newsletter. Also, in the 9/21 Family Envelope, you will receive the End of Year budget that SMM is required to submit each year.
This afternoon, the school was notified by the construction company doing work on Anza Ave that for the next several days they will be working on the street in front of the school and there will be some traffic delays. SMM sent an e-mail to all school families who have given us their e-mail addresses, asking you to be flexible and understanding as the project gets completed. Parents will be allowed to drop off children at 7:30am as some parents have volunteered to come early to help.
Reminder – Jodee Blanco will be in OGC this Friday night to discuss “Bullying” – she will talk to our children Friday morning, to several of the local Catholic school staffs in the afternoon, prior to our parent session at 7:00pm.
We will have a Cookie Dough Sale in November – we would LOVE your support of this, but we are offering it in response to several parents’ requests to bring it back – it is NOT intended to be a major fundraiser. Quench your sweet-tooth and help the school at the same time.
The SJS 2nd Alumni Luncheon was held today in OGC. 21 Alumni attended. Patty Miller coordinated this year’s event, Fr. Jim and SMM hosted them, and the school Liturgical Choir entertained them with songs from the Spring Sing.
Spanish classes are going really well so far. SMM has been listening in on some of the classes and is favorably impressed with the abilities of the students to pick up the language so quickly.
Next meeting date: November 9, 2009 7pm
